Q: What muffler should i get for my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta?
I am looking into buying a new muffler and tip for my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta GL. I am trying to keep the price low. Any suggestions? What brand, etc. I want some sound but I dont want it to be an obnoxious fart can. i want medium to low sound.
A: Your best bet would be to look on youtube for examples. But to be honest the 2.0 engine doesn’t sound all that great with an exhaust. Look up magnaflow or borla mufflers. I prefer borla.
Q: is a Volkswagen Jetta a good car to invest my money in?
so, my sweet 16 is coming up, and I get to spend up to about $7,000 on a used car for me, so i was wondering if a Volkswagen Jetta is a good car? I really think their so cute, for my age, and not to expensive, also, any links to dealers that seel them for cheap would be great! i live in the seattle WA area. lastly, how many miles should i look at when i buy a used car? like whats too many?
A: I have a Jetta TDI (diesel) and really like it. I drive a lot of miles though so I wanted something that would get great fuel mileage. I get about 43 driving to college, it is about 30 miles one way though. I think it is a good car but I haven’t had it that long. I found mine at autotrader.com, the usually have a good selection. Carmax.com is also good. One concern is driving them in the snow. I don’t know if you get a lot of snow or not but I don’t think they are great in the snow, not horrible but you could probably do better there. But overall I like mine. Hope this helps.

A: Try tirerack.com.
Q: Why does my ‘84 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel build up lots of pressure in the cooling system?
When I drive my jetta for about 10 minutes, it builds up so much pressure and surpisingly the radiator hoses dont just pop. The radiator fan dont work. Could that be the problem? How can I fix?
A: What do you mean that it is building up pressure? is it forcing coolant out the overflow? In that case, since your fan isn’t working, it is going to overheat in slow traffic or when it it stopped. The more heat that is built up, the more pressure on the system. You must get the radiatior fan fixed. It will burn the engine up in traffic and when stopped if you don’t.
If it does it while driving… it is possible that the head gasket is leaking or the head is cracked. either one (or both) would have most likely been caused by you overheating the engine as described above.
if you are not good with electrical systems, take it to someone to get the fan fixed and a good diagnosis on your other problem.

Q: I have an 01 automatic Volkswagen Jetta and its having problems?
My 01 jetta seems to be slipping from first to second. What could this mean? Do i need a new transmission?
A: Yes, its possible that the transmission fluid level might be low, but its something that is supposed to be checked at a majour service. You cannot just add transmission fluid to the transmission, the temp of the transmission fluid must at the correct temp and you need either the VAG scan tool or an aftermarket scan tool that has the AG4 automatic transmission software in it. In addition, the person doing the check needs to be familiar with the transmission and the software in order to perform the fluid addition correctly.
The transmission uses a fluid that is only available at the dealership level, DO NOT ADD Dextron, you will cause transmission problems and possible failure by the addition of the wrong fluid…! There are no band adjustments, a linkage adjustment is unlikey to repair your concern, though low fluid could cause the issue you have. Changing the fluid is also unlikely to repair the issue (uness it was low on fluid to start with).
If the fluid level correction or if the fluid level is ok does not correct the condition, then the transmission has an internal problem. Is somewhat possible that the transmission does not require replacement; could be a valve body issue either servicing it or replacing might do it… but if not that, then it is highly likely that the transmission will require repacement.
If the fluid level is the problem, make sure that the transmission has had all the software updates performed. The VAG scanner can do the software updates as can some aftermarket units. The AG4 transmission used in 2003-2004 became a good unit; all the software and other issues had been corrected. A replacement transmission (if needed) shoud have all the updates in it (an exchange unit from VW will have it unless its a unit that been sitting around somewhere forever). A transmission from an ATRA member is likely to have all the updates also (automatic transmission rebuilders association).
Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: Is the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI a better value than a similarly sized gasoline model?
With diesel fuel costing $1 to $1.50 more per gallon than gasoline, plus the cost premium of the TDI model, is the Jetta TDI a better value than a gasoline engine model? I know the hybrids have similar mileage ratings, but I’m not sold on the long term viability of their technology. Has anyone done a “true cost to own” analysis of the Jetta TDI? I can’t seem to find that model at Edmunds.
All great answers… Thanks! I’m located in upstate new york. The station down the street was selling diesel today for $2.97/gal. Regular was $1.99/gal.
A: I have been researching the same. I am very interested in the TDI’s. Living in Europe we have been driving TDI’s for a decade, the mileage is great and now the diesels of today are very clean. I noticed that the price of diesel in the states was higher than gas, and I took this into consideration. Even with the higher price “Now” for me in the long run it would still be a worthwhile investment.
However what happened in Europe when the TDI first came out was that everyone started switching to TDI cars because they were so much more fuel efficient. This created more demand for diesel, and diesel went up in price. The government noticed a drop in revenue from gasoline sales and increase the taxes on diesel fuel. Then they said diesel pollute more, so another tax, know diesel pollute less so they are going to another tax.
2 years ago you almost had to special order a gasoline engine, because everyone wanted a diesel. Now the taxes are set up that it really does not matter. The cost and savings are from which vehicle is cheaper to maintain, and it’s resale value. Diesel are stronger engines, so if I do allot of heavy hauling the life span is longer.
I would pick a diesel over a Hybrid any day. I do not see where adding a set of heavy batteries and a electric motor is going to be long term cost effective. Sooner or later the batteries will have to be replaced and sooner or later the electric motor will also need to be replaced.
Best of luck.
Q: Is the Volkswagen Jetta with the top package a good car?
I’m thinking of getting a new car i was looking at the Jetta is it worth buying?
A: My wife and I bought a ‘05 Jetta. It now has over 80,000 reliable , thrill-to-drive miles on it. The Jetta is a thoroughly economical, practical, great to own car. All we do is put gas in it and have it serviced as per the owner’s manual. Thats it.
Some say that VW parts are high. I have checked into this and have found it untrue. Part for part, Honda, Toyota and VW prices are abt. equal.
We are going to keep our trusty Jetta for a long, long time. But if we were in the market for a new car, we would head straight to the VW dealership and buy a new Jetta! They really are that good!
Plus, Consumer Reports Magazine says that the Jetta qualifies as a “Recommended Buy”.
Q: Safety Features of the Volkswagen Jetta?
Can someone tell me all the Volkswagen Jetta safety features?
I also need the sites in which you got the information.
I need thinks about like what kind of brakes it has, ratings and stuff. thank you.
A: Four years ago I searched for a safe, reliable and economical car for my wife. After looking at Honda and Toyota,we went to VW. We found the Jetta equipped with 8 airbags (no-one else had as many). ABS full size front and rear disc brakes are standard. For the strongest bodychassis, the Jetta is 100 laser welded.
To help avoid accidents Jetta has ASR [anti-slip regulation] and ESP [electronic stabilization program]. Oh yes, the Jetta came with the widest tires too; other cars had narrower tires fitted for a slight increase in MPG; of course wider tires have more grip and traction for safety….
The Jetta just had more “presence” and felt solid ;almost seemed to glide down the road.
It had a host of other safety features too numerous to mention here, but try VW.com for more detailed info.
Needless to say, we bought the Jetta in my wife’s favorite color silver, and with 80,000 reliable miles on it we are very happy!
My wife says its the best car Ive ever bought for her. Nuff said….

Q: What can i do to make my 2006 volkswagen jetta faster?
Does anyone know what parts i can buy or what i can add on to make my car have more hp or run faster?
Im not to good with modding cars but i want to make mine faster.
I have a 2.5 liter engine with 170hp.
‘06 jetta
A: Do you really want to do this?
You will void your warranty, and you will lose a lot of resale value.
And there is not much you can do.
Do use high octane gas as recommended in the drivers manual, that will give you a bit of a pickup.
