Q: ford escape?
are the ford escape hybirds good cars?
A: The Ford Escape Hybrid. It’s the ‘greenest’ SUV
It also has a large federal tax incentive available & it has actually gone DOWN in price each year of its production (‘05-’06-’07-’08)
Here’s a price comparison for you.

(note; the ‘08 Hybrid Escape qualifies for a federal tax incentive of $3000 , which has NOT been applied to the prices shown in this example)
I’ve driven one extensively & it is really FUN to drive.
In my experience, I DOUBLED my MPG (hybrid vs non-hybrid V6 Escape, both 4X4 ) & I drive like a complete idiot!
Also New York City taxi drivers have put HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of miles on theirs (withno problems, btw) & if they can survive that kind of abuse ( LOL ) I think they can handle anything.
btw-here’s a downloadable brochure for ya!

Q: Ford Escape?
I’m starting to think about cars and I love the ford Escape! :] Do you think it’d be a good car for a teenager (who doesn’t drive 100 mph!)?

Also, do you know what year/model this is? I think it’s 2006, but I’m not positive! Thanks!
*If you own this car, please say why you do/don’t like it! Thanks!
I plan on doing research :]
A: I have a 2007 and I love it. It hugs curves on exit ramps. mine has AWD so no pushing buttons for 4X4. Gas mileage is good on the highway, but not all that great in the city. The only problem I have ever had is it seems to “pull” the the left off and on. I asked my service advisor and he said they have had several complaints about that. Hopefully they corrected it in th 2008’s. I have had mine for two years now and have no plans on trading it.
Q: ford escape?
tell me everything you know about the escape and the hybrid…recommendations and other options
A: it depends on what year your asking about but the only problems i have seen have been transmission in the 4×4 they seem to have problems at about 75,000 to 80,000 miles and they have a few electrical problems but mostly those are very minor if you are buy used look for 2003 and up older then that they had more problems…also i would wait on the hybrid for a couple of years a lot of new technology in those vehicles let them work the bugs out first…
Q: What is the best and cheapest way to add freon to your 2003 Ford Escape?
I have a 2003 Ford Escape XLT. Recently, the air conditioning has started taking a little longer to cool down the car. The air flow just doesn’t seem as cold as it usually does. After driving for a short while, the air finally gets cold. Does this mean that the vehicle needs more freon? The air conditioner has never been serviced, so is this a possibility? How much does it cost? Where is the best and cheapest place to have this done? Thanks!
The extended warranty on the vehicle has already expired since the vehicle has over 70K+ miles.
A: Yes, it sounds like you need more refrigerant (“Freon”). Cheapest way is to do it yourself. Go to auto parts store, they will sell to you a kit, and explain to you how it works. There will also probably be an instruction book inside of it, to show you how. It’s not very hard, and a heck of a lot cheaper than having a pro do it. Even then, it’s not that expensive, unless the “pro” tries to rip you off, by saying you got a leak, and charging you for stuff you don’t really need. It is normal for loss of some refrigerant over a long amount of time, but so many so called “pro’s” are con artists, and can rip you off, so be careful and shop around for an honest one.
Q: Is there a way to turn off daytime running lights for ford escape?
I have a 2006 Ford Escape XLT and I was wondering if there is a way to make it where the daytime running lamps aren’t always on. I thought Daytime Running Lights (DRL) were supposed to turn off if it was sunny outside, but I guess I was wrong.
A: Unlike GM’s there is no easy way (pressing of switches in a certain order) to turn off the DRL.
For Ford’s you are stuck with this feature, unless you want to start tampering with the LCM (lighting control module) very expensive to replace if you FUBAR it.
Here’s my pet peeve about DRL’s-I understand they are a safety feature, but in city driving the benefits are lowered vs. country/highway driving, so there is really no use for it in that situation. Also, constant on/off of the lights (such as turning on and off the car) and high hour use of the lights means more frequent bulb replacements and a drain on the electrical system (impacting your battery and alternator). The later isn’t much of an issue unless you run alot of aftermarket equipment that draws a lot of power.
Also, if everyone has DRLs it’s almost a pointless thing. Kinda like if everyone had HID lights. Since it just becomes an annoyance for other drivers.
These are just some of the things that auto makers neglect to think of when they push these “safety” features on the public.

Q: ford escape?
Anyone own one and how do you like it?
A: My wife drives one every day. 2005 XLT with the V6 AWD. We have 81k on it now and the only thing we needed to replace was the fuel pump at 65k ish.
We can squeeze mid 20’s for mileage on the highway. IS a little squirrely on the highway, but due to the short wheelbase. My wife loves it. It is a good vehicle, but I don’t like it because of personal reasons (I just prefer a truck and my shoulders are too wide for room, but seat moves plenty far back to drive I’m 6′ 3″)
THe 4WD, well AWD (it isn’t selectable) works well. Not magic, but well. Both differentials are open, and on our model anyway, the brakes are not actuated in a fashion to produce traction control. It isn’t a good vehicle to take offroad, it can handle a dirt road just fine, even a little more. It just doesn’t make a lot of power and the gearing is high, so it is easy to get stuck in the sand/ect, nor does the suspension have a lot of travel. But my wife does take it to the beach during the summer, got stuck once… Works nicely in the snow, you have to make an effort to get it to slide sideways.
Rear seats fold almost flat… enough to sleep back there if you wanted. We removed the rear headrests because they limit visibility from the mirror through the rear window.
Would I recommend? Yeah, with the experience we have had with ours, I would say take a look at the Escape if it fits your bill!
Q: Ford Escape. .?
What are your thoughts? How cheap do you think I can got one for (first car).
A: i love mine… 14000 for a 3 year old one
Q: 2001 Ford Escape 195,000 miles, How long do they last?
I am looking at a 2001 Ford Escape with 195,000 miles on it. The inside and outside look great. The dealer is asking $3995. How long do these vehicles usually last? And how expensive are repairs?
A: Hard to say, depends on how well it has been maintained. My 2001 only has 110000 miles, but it runs great.
Q: Has anyone had ca-shaft failure in Ford’s 3 ltr engine in ‘02 Escape & others?
We have a 2002 Ford Escape that has had cam shaft bearing failure. No running out of oil and no overheating. The original cam shaft and bearings were improperly aligned by faulty specs. It took 2 weeks for the machine shop to get the right specs from Ford. There is a fix from Ford if you pressure them for it, however you will laugh when you find out what it is, as our mechanic did. Has anyone had this problem??
A: There have been an isolated number of cases of bank #2 exhaust cam bearing surface failure. But this is only on the newer vehicles equipped with the 3.0L Duratec engines that use the non-adjustable water pump drive at the back of the engine. What seems to be happening is the belt tension on the water pump drive is putting alot of downward force on the cam, causing the bearing surface failure. But again, this has only been on an isolated number of cases. Overall, the 3.0L Duratec has been a very reliable and powerful engine otherwise.
Q: What could be wrong with the EGR sytem on my Ford Escape?
My 2002 Ford Escape threw an OBD2 code last year that indicated a failing DPFE sensor. I replaced the sensor and the code shortly cleared itself. Now almost a year later, the check engine light has come on again with a code of P1406 (“Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic Sensor circuit Downstream Hose”). The engine is also now suddenly running very rough at idle, but it didn’t do that the first time, when the DPFE sensor failed. Could the DPFE sensor have failed yet again? If so, why would the engine run rough at idle now when it did nothing like that last year when it failed? Is there anything else I can troubleshoot here myself, or do I just need to take it to a qualified pro.
Thanks,
Kyle
A: there may be a vaccuum leak in the egr system. look at a diagram of how the vaccuum lines should look like and see if it’s correct under the hood. if that’s not it, well then s.hit, talk to a smog technician.
Q: What should I expect on my 05 ford escape wheel bearing repair?
05 ford escape, 55,000 miles on it. loud humming/vibration front driver side with substantial wear on the outside of the tire.
Curious to know, how long that repair takes, and with an AWD vehicle should I replace the passenger side bearing as well while its all pulled apart? Would it be more cost effective? And cost projections? I am just trying to become more informed before my appointment with the dealership.
A: You have already had a diagnostic visit with the dealer? I haven’t seen any bearing failures on this particular vehicle. The bearing replacement can take up to four hours, depending on how difficult the vehicle wants to make it:) Probably will not take that long, if the shop has the right equipment. No, do not replace the passenger side, it is in no way involved in bearing replacement for the driver’s side. I ask about the diagnostic visit because, I have seen more tire problems on the Escape from the Continental tires causing noise. Are you still running the Continental tires? These were very bad about cupping and feathering the edges of the tires, causing a roaring noise and vibration, especially if they are not rotated every 5 to 6,000 miles, but some caused noise even if they were rotated properly. A quick check of your tires would be to run your hand along the inside and outside edge of the tire. Is the tread level and uniform? Or does it go up and down, up and down? Lightly slide your hand over it and see if any raised tread catches your fingers. This will cause a roaring or wump-wump noise while driving. Just a thought. I have had great success with replacing the Continental’s with the BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A’s, and they look good in white letters too!
Q: How much would a Ford Escape cost?
How much would a used Ford Escape in good condition cost?
A: Just bought a used 2008 escape 2.3 engine FWD with 152km on the odometer for 12k before tax and number plate.
Q: how do i change the thermostat on a 2005 ford escape xlt?
how do i change the thermostat on a 2005 ford escape xlt?
A: the thermostat will most likely be located near the engine base the is attached to the hose running from the top of the radiator.
if you have a book for your model car the instructions are simple to follow look under radiator and cooling systems in the manuel.
also you need to pay close attention to the direction of the remove so that you know the proper replacement direction upon application of the new unit.
Q: Any help on a steering squeak in my 2002 ford escape?
When I turn the wheel on my 2002 ford escape there is a loud squeaking sound that comes from under the drivers side. I thought maybe the tyrod needed greasing but I cant find any grease fittings there so I am confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated
A: Your are correct. It IS the outer tie rod that is squeaking, according to your description of the symptom. There are NO grease fittings on most new vehicles these days. Unfortunately, the only way to fix it, is to replace it, which also mandates having an alignment done as well.
