Q: Can air conditioning be installed in a 1981 jeep wrangler?
I found this really awesome rebuilt 81 jeep wrangler but I don’t think I can do without air conditioning. Is it possible to install AC? If so, how much?
A: AMC Jeep only made CJ-5, CJ-7, & CJ-8 in 1981. They did not produce a Wrangler till 1987 when they Jeep came out with the YJ.
Q: Where does the black soot around my tailpipe on my 2006 Jeep Wrangler come from? How do i fix the problem?
Ever since I bought my 2006 Jeep Wrangler last year, I have noticed black soot around the end of my tailpipe. Does this have to do with the spark plugs? Would this be covered under the warranty?
A: could be plugs or a number of other things and plugs are usually not a warrenty item. If it is still under warrenty i would take it back to the dealer they can do the diagnostics and find the problem. Could be emissions problems.
Good luck
Q: What is the estimated largest size camper trailer that can be pulled by a jeep wrangler?
It is a 4×4 jeep wrangler V6 4.0L Automatic . Obviously no fifth-wheel trailers, but what would the largest potential size be?
A: The Wrangler will pull a small pop-up but you will get a lot of sway with the short wheelbase.I pulled a 12ft pop-up that weighed over 2000lbs and had no trouble but couldn’t drive more then 50mph without sway.
Q: Would I be able to convert a Jeep Wrangler into a solar powered car?
I want to buy a very cheap old Jeep Wrangler and turn it into a solar powered car. It’s the only car I’ve ever wanted but Jeep doesn’t make hybrids. I would even settle for a hybrid. But I’m just wondering if I can take an existing car body and take everything out of it to make it into solar powered. Thanks.
I also heard about the air car. What’s up with that? Or should we just ride bicycles and walk everywhere?
A: yes u could..however..the solar power panels and amount u would need would far outweigh what the solar ennergy would actualy move…u could run a belt off of 1 of the back wheels and make a chicken rotissorie
Q: How many miles can you expect a Jeep wrangler to last for?
I just traded my 04 Jeep Liberty in for a new 07 Scion tC and I love the tC but I don’t want to drive it hard. As a result I’ve been lookin for a jeep wrangler that I can beat on/ drive in the winter.
I found one local that’s cheap. This is all the info I have about it:
Black w/ grey interior
160k miles
5 speed
4 cyl
new brake lines
rebuilt alternator
clutch replaced
asking $1,500 OBO
runs great and i just got a tune up
It would only be a second car that I occasionally drive to preserve my other car. Do you guys think this is a good buy? Is it worth the chance? Will I get many more miles out if it?
I would offer about $900-$1000…
Also it is a 1995
A: if you can get it and take cars of it i have seen those last for 300 k real easy, about every 100 thousand you need to remove the oil pan and clean the sludge out of them they seem to collect a lot of it,other than that those things will last forever,if you keep it maintained real good,i drove one until it had 285 thousand on it,then sold it,there good vehicles, good luck with it.
Q: How difficult is it to replace a real differential on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
I just purchased a 1994 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 that looks great but nees work…previous owner says the rear differential is shot…and sure enough, when trying to move the vehicle it makes a horrible loud noise and feels like the emergency brakes are on. Anyhow, I’m guessing I’ll just swap out the bad differential for a new one…anyone know how difficult this is? I’ve replaced two transmissions but have no experience at all with differentials.
A: Are you talking about the whole assembly or the guts. Either way. If you can replace a tranny, then you can do the assembly. If it is just the guts. The actual replacement is not hard, the setup of the gears can be. If replacing the gears. Stick with Dana or Motive Gear Gears. DO NOT use Richmond. As a former sales rep for a company that specialized in exactly what you are asking. I lost more customers due either Richmond Gears or GM being garbage.
Q: How do i change the oil on my 1992 jeep wrangler yj?
I just bought a jeep wrangler yj as my first car and figured i could save myself some money by doing work to it myself. The only problem is that i have never worked on a car before, and cant find anything online to help me to change the oil. I have all the parts, just want to know how to do it, any help is appreciated.
A: first raise the front of your jeep, or if you can crawl under that works too, then find the oil pan drain bolt, its usally pretty big and easy to find, drain out the oil, find the oil filter and remove it, lube the ring of the new filter and screw it on, put drain bolt on, put new oil in, crank up and check level
Q: how do i get better gas mileage on a Jeep Wrangler?
I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler that gets about 16 miles to the gallon. How do i get better gas mileage?
A: To be honest, you could invest thousands in the jeep to try and eek anothere 1 or 2 mpg out of it.
To get 16 mpg is pretty good seeing as I get about 14.
Best solution is to make sure you keep your foot off of the gas as much as possible.
Q: How do you install fog lights on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler?
My 1998 Jeep Wrangler did not come with factory fog lights. I would like to install some but can find no clear or complete instructions on how to do so. Any help or direction is appreciated.
A: new lights will come with instructions, look at KC HiLites – great product and warranty. The basic pieces are a relay, wire, a switch, and the lights.
Below is a link to KCs install guides
Q: What should i name my silver jeep wrangler?
What should i name my silver jeep wrangler?
Everyone always names their cars, and I cant think of a name!
What shall i name it!
A: Silverado
Q: how to remove a jack from jeep wrangler rubicon?
I have a jeep wrangler rubicon. How do I remove the tire jack from the back compartment?
A: Wow – I am currently researching how to remove the jack from my Wrangler SE. The directions seem easy until you look at the jack. I have spent almost a full day trying to figure out how to remove it so I can change a tire. Let me know if anyone knows how to do this. I called the dealer and they didn’t know. They said they never have to use jacks since they have lifts. They were NO help.
Q: How can I prevent violent shaking in my 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
Each time I drive over some rough roads or over a pot hole or even some bumps, my 2008 Jeep Wrangler begins to shake violently. The tires begin to bounce or wobble uncontrollably and the steering wheel becomes difficult to stop from shaking.
My Jeep is only 2 years old and is still under warranty. Should I look into installing a stiffer suspension on the jeep? What are my options?
A: Its called death wobble in the Jeeping community, if it is under warranty I would take it in and have it fixed. There are a number of causes but again if it is under warranty let the dealership fix it…here is a link that explains what it is and what can cause it. Honestly I have only heard of this on lifted or older vehicles but I guess it can happen to anything.

Q: How fast can i drive my 93 jeep wrangler when i have it in 4-wheel drive?
I own a 1993 jeep wrangler and i was just wondering how fast i could go while having the car in 4 high. I just do not want to cause damage to the car.
A: The gear drive for 4 high and 2wheel drive is the same. You can go as fast as possible giving the conditions. The only problem is that some times the front axle has a different ratio then the back.
This means that the front wheels turn just a fraction slower then the back. On dry pavement that can spell disaster.
On 4 low the speed is limited to about 21-25 mph any faster and your really stressing the engine.
To better understand the concept imagine a mountain bike 26 inch.
Now replace the front tire with a 20 inch tire.
The bike all together travels at the same speed but the front tire is turning faster then the back.
This is not a problem because the bike is rear wheel drive. If you were to attach a chain to the front then the pedals would lock up because the tires are not turning at the same speed.
That would be the same as your transmission locking up. Read the manual or check the visor. 4 hi is for snow sand wet, slippery road.
Good luck 4wheeling. it’s lots of fun
Q: How many miles can I expect to get out of a 99 Jeep Wrangler?
I’m looking at buying a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, as far as the body goes it’s in excellent condition, but it’s packing 168,000 miles. How many years can I expect to rely on this vehicle? How many miles does a typical Wrangler of this year last before the motor dies out?
A: Is it a 4.0 motor? If so that’s a tough and rugged motor. You can’t break the bottom end as it has more main bearings than rod bearings. You should get 250,000 out of that motor easy. It all depends if the previous owner took care of it properly.
Is it automatic or standard? Either is a decent transmission but 168,000 is getting a little high on the automatic especially if the fluids have never been changed.
Overall a Jeep Wrangler is a great vehicle and they hold their value better than just about any vehicle out there. Even if you have put in a new engine and new transmission at some point it’s a great fun vehicle.
Q: How do I remove the rear seat in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
I’d like to remove the rear seat in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler but can’t seem to figure out how. Is there a quick release?
A: Fold it forward and you will see latches that you can flip to release it and pull it out. Now if you want to make it permanant, as I did, you will find brackets that are bolted in using metric bolts. Remove the bolts and bracket then re-install the bolts to fill in the holes. Done.
